Last of the 90's
Featured to the right, are AIChE officers and members spelling out the individual letters of the acronym, AIChE. The "Last of the 90's" was the theme of this 2019's end of the year banquet hosted by our LC. As you can see, the event was very fun, and we are very cool.

Bourns Engineering Day:
On April 5th 2014, AICHE participated in SWE’s (Society of Women Engineers) Engineering Day. Throughout the day, the volunteers hosted a variety of booths and events that are designed to spark the children’s interest in engineering. The children were able to participate in a wide range of activities including creating a structure that is able to protect an egg from a drop from the bridge at Bourns Hall. AIChE’s main event in Engineering Day was the LN2 ice cream station where Dillon Gidcumb, Eric Lin, James Kwon, and Carlos Rodriguez taught them about the process of creating ice cream with liquid nitrogen while demonstrating the its effects on plants and balloons. The freshly prepared ice cream was given to the children while nitrogen trivia was presented. Several other AIChE members were group leaders, designated to be in charge of a class of kids and guided them to different stations throughout the day.

Discovery Day:
On March 8, 2014 AIChE had the opportunity to reach out to prospective freshmen on UCR's Discovery Day. Several of our new officers had the opportunity to talk to potential UCR students and educate them about AIChE. Officers informed the students about the many benefits of becoming AIChE members at UCR including all of the professional development workshops that AIChE hosts which include: resume building, research fairs, practice interview workshops and more. Students were also informed of exclusive benefits and opportunities such as: to participate in challenging projects to gain hands on experience, Company Guest Speaker Events to gain connections to the companies offering internships and jobs, as well as connections to many research opportunities available within the CEE department.

In addition to this, they also gave an overview of the products they provide and what being in IRS entails. The guest speakers gave their take on the experience of working for their respective companies. There were opportunities for students to talk one on one with the speakers for advice on their professional career. AIChE at UC Riverside’s First General Meeting of the Year:
We continued our annual tradition of serving Liquid Nitrogen Ice-cream at the first general meeting of the year on October 1st, 2013. With over 90 prospective members and officers, it was one of the largest meetings hosted. At this meeting, the board of officers for the 2013-14 academic year and the chapter advisor were introduced. The calendar of upcoming events, project opportunities, and committee recruitment, were discussed. Tyler Berte (Programming Chair), Carlos Rodriguez (Project Manager), and Shrey Prajapati (President) helped prepare the liquid nitrogen ice cream at the beginning of the meeting. The remaining officers served the ice cream and it was great to see many familiar faces, which included alumni, former officers, and members from previous years. Even more so, it was great to see many prospective members that we all met at the Highlander Orientation Sessions over summer. We look forward to meeting and providing involvement, research and internship opportunities to many of the new members in attendance!

Chevron Info-Session:
On October 29th, 2013, former UC Riverside Alumni, Rickie Ohiri was invited to speak at AIChE’s guest speaking info-session event. Rickie Ohiri obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering (B.S.) in 2012 and is now currently a Process Engineer for Chevron. He was able to share important information regarding the company, culture, and career opportunities. With Chevron recruiting at UC Riverside for the first time ever, AIChE members had the unique opportunity to network and gain insight about the company through this event, which otherwise would be rather difficult to obtain. AIChE at UC Riverside would like to thank our members, officers, Rickie Ohiri, and Chevron for making this event a success. It was a wonderful way to close a very eventful month!

Succeed at a Job Fair Workshop:
On October 24th, AIChE held a Succeed at a Job fair Workshop, presented by a recent UC Riverside graduate Carlos Espinoza. Carlos is at present a graduate student working in Dr. Asa-Awuku’s research group and was previously the Professional Development officer for our chapter. His Professional Development experience stems from numerous job fairs, interviews, and various industrial-networking opportunities. He shared personal tips on how to tailor your resume for various scenarios, as well as, pointers on how to dress professionally. Members and officers who attended this workshop had an opportunity to share their 30-second elevator speech. If you have questions about your 30 second elevator speech or want to learn about what a 30-second elevator speech, contact Shrey Prajapati (spraj002@ucr.edu) or Linh Tong (ltong002@ucr.edu).

Resume Workshop with Dr. Phillip Christopher:
AIChE held the annual resume workshop on October 17, 2013 with Dr. Christopher as the guest speaker. Dr. Christopher received his B.S. in chemical engineering at UC Santa Barbara and his M.S. and Ph.D. in chemical engineering at University of Michigan. He not only advised students on how to write great resumes, but also gave advice for interviews and networking. It was a very interactive workshop, where Dr. Christopher asked several potential interview questions, answered specific questions about résumés, and provided useful information about the different fields chemical engineers may choose to have a career in.

Riverside’s Long Nights of Arts and Innovation:
For the first time ever, AIChE at UC Riverside had the opportunity to showcase the Desalinator and the TEG fountain at Riverside’s Long Nights of Arts and Innovation on October 10th, 2013. With hundreds in attendance, ranging from CEO’s to members of media, AIChE members, officers and project managers answered many questions regarding the feasibility, economics, and mechanisms of the two projects. The daunting tasks of completing the final few stages of the Desalinator, building the proof of concept design of the TEG, and assembling two posters about each of the projects was assigned to a few of AIChE’s most dedicated members and officers. Two teams led by Shrey Prajapati and Carlos Rodriguez were able to accomplish these tasks in just three days leading up to the night of the event. At the event several of the members attended to show support for AIChE at UC Riverside. It was a great showcase of how dedicated our members and officers are – an absolute efficient team.

Committee Mixer:
As a growing organization here at UCR, we strive to encourage our members to have greater involvement in AIChE to help enhance personal and professional mannerisms. On October 8th, 2013, we held our first committee mixer, which opened the doors for our members to join the committee of one of our twelve officers. The opportunity of joining one of our committees allows members to get firsthand experience planning and executing various events, approaching companies, and working on projects. We urge everyone who would like to add experience to their résumés right away to join a committee!
